Thursday May 26

Check-in day! As expected, people arrived throughout the day into the late evening. Dinner was each to their own on this day, either in or around the hotel or just a short 10-minute train ride into Malmö city centre.

In the evening we had an informal get-together at the hotel, to relax after the trip, meet new MG friends, and catch up with familiar faces.

countryside

Friday May 27

We went east and north-east of Malmö to enjoy the beautiful countryside of Skåne, the southernmost part of Sweden. The speedy and charming B-roads took us through the varied landscape, where we had both lunch and a typical Swedish fika – coffee, cake and a chat.

In the afternoon, we travelled back in time: A stop at the Uppåkra excavation site gave us an idea how important the are was in the early Middle Ages. Back in Malmö, there will be time to relax together with MG friends, before the joint dinner which was also held at the hotel.

road

Saturday May 28

Today the drive took us in the opposite direction. Excellent roads take us through the open fields south-east of Malmö to continue our exploration of Skåne.

Our main destination for the day was the medieval town of Ystad, where we had the chance to visit the film studios to experience how the famous TV series “Wallander” and “The Bridge” were created. A tasty lunch was served there from a burger van specially hired for us.

Driving back to Malmö, we took the faster B-roads along the coast, making a stop at Smygehuk, the southernmost tip of Sweden. Coffee and ice cream were provided here as well. In the evening, we enjoyed a joint good-bye dinner together at the hotel.

Sunday May 29

Lund

We started a little later in the morning, our route leading us through the city of Malmö towards the Öresund bridge for a great photo oppertunity. We then  continued up north to Lund, which is home to one of the oldest universities in Sweden. We had an exclusive parking in the town centre, close to the beautiful cathedral. We then had lunch together, just around the corner, at the culture centre, followed by plenty of time to explore the town.
